Week 12 Chapter 12 Discussion: Product Life Cycle

Observation:

      I have not played video games in over ten years, however, when I say the Play Station 2 listed as a technology it gave me a sense of nostalgia. I was surprised to learn the release dates and units sold of the gaming systems. The Sony console's have a new release every six to seven years. This s the product life cycle of gaming consoles. The consoles have a useful life of ten to eleven years. Sony has done a great job pin point the soon decline in the latest console and unveiling a newer model. With this knowledge in hand, it is easy to comprehend by the next expected release for the PS5 is in 2020.

     There are not as many clear patterns in social media. I was surprised to learn that the three companies chosen which include Myspace, Facebook, and Twitter only differ in release dates by two years, yet one died six years ago and other looks to be at its decline that are Myspace and Facebook, respectively.  From my research, Myspace lost a market segment due to poor product development. It was an entertainment tool not pure social media platform hence the music and personalization. People have become more and more friendly with Twitter over the last few years and with the privacy scandal of Facebook book now looming over Mark Zuckerberg I feel many people will move on. My prediction is that Twitter will surpass Facebook for active users in two years.

Week 15 Discussion & Assignment

Nate Davies Jimmy Xu Business 260 - Marketing May 3rd, 2018 Week 15 Discussion 1. From a financial standpoint, I would say the bottom ad is out performing the top. The top may have more clicks and other figures but not relative to the cost per conversation the bottom wins. In theory, one could pump more money into the bottom ad and it would out perform the top overall if given the same financial backing. 2) a. They were unsuccessful because they found this product needed a video medium to both entertain their market and capture their interest so they could then tell them the benefits which creates value.
