Week 5 Discussion & Analysis Chapter 6: Consumer Behavior
Part 1 (Q1-7):
- The messages found in food packaging like cereals typically revolve around health, thrift, or brand recognition.
- Yes, for example, many cereals state they are fortified with vitamins and minerals.
- The primary audience for most of cereal companies are the kids from the ages of 2 to 16 years old.
- The two cereals longed for by kids are usually Coco Puffs and Cookie Crisp. Both cereals are loaded with sugar and Cookie Crisp looks like cookies!
- The breakfast cereal to eat for you is oatmeal which differs from the theme of cold cereals but the healthiest cold cereal is Cheerios (https://www.shape.com/healthy-eating/meal-ideas/healthiest-cereal-choices-help-you-live-longer). The unhealthiest is Coco Puffs (http://www.eatthis.com/worst-breakfast-cereals/)
- The most expense cereal today is Either Mom's Best or Kashi which is over $4 for a twelve-ounce box. The least expensive choice is an off-brand of Cheerios.
- The two for five only works for me if it is less than the orange unit price shown for one. I do not like to buy in bulk because it means my money is either sitting someone and I am not using it or can potentially go bad. There is an implied deal where with getting multiples things for five dollars. It is like Taco Bell selling $5 boxes with amount the same values of tacos.
Part 2 (Q8)
- I know the fifth amendment right was put in place in-case of martial law and a "tyrannical government" needed to be brought down but I don't think people should have guns at all. Australia's shootings have evaporated since they banned guns. I know American's civilians will never let guns go away so there does need to be more regulations around it like further screening, registration, and insurance. Finally, I do feel the private sale of weapons should be turned into a felony. It is way too easy to get a gun off craigslist or similar outlet. For the record, I enjoy shooting guns and loved hunting with my dad growing up but it is unfortunate we live in such a sick society today where everyone needs to lose their guns to protect the masses from a few extremely disturbed individuals.
Part 3 (Q9-12)
- I typically searched for a trusted brand that has loyalty points rewards through a distributor and buy an inexpensive version of what I need or the most ergonomically. For example, I have bought my bike, winter jacket, mittens, and beanie through Eastern Mountain Sports. I buy their brand when I can because it is cheaper but as good as North Face in my opinion. If I do buy North Face like my jacket I earn points which is 5-10% back in store credit as well as a 10% student discount. My bike I got in October, so it was marked down from $750 to $500 dollars which I got points back on a free tune-up later to use from their technician. This started a business relationship with my bike instead of going to Gorham Bike & Ski for example.
- This is ambiguous question the product xy=2700 for both points and has an indirect relationship when you graph the points. It depends on the situation if I can get twice as much at half the cost per unit I would go with (6000,0.45) because I could then turn more units with a bigger margin which is amazing.
- Prospect theory talks about losses hurting people more mentally than gains of the same amount. People would rather give up a guaranteed $100 than a questionable extra $500 down the road.
- Yes, milk is stratified into percentages of fat per unit. I have never seen a carton that says 100% carbs from sugar! All cow's milk has 13g of carbohydrates from 13gs of sugar. The does not have a good allure because the word sugar has a negative connotation even though all the sugar in milk is natural.
ReplyDeleteGood job! You did a really good job of organizing your thoughts and important facts. It was good to see you did introduce the facts and examples in a relevant manner. There is probably several things that you could try to incorporate next time in order to improve your learning. You might want to explain how the prospect theory applies to a practical setting (i.e., the reading on the prospect theory). In addition, you might want to explain if the prospect theory useful or not and how this concept relates to a real-world application.
