Instantly, I was fascinated by this technology. I am an accounting student who wants to do forensic accountant which involves finding hidden relationships between numbers. This service does this fast, accurate, and without bias. Most of my life I have been involved with fitness. From when I was twelve to sixteen I ate, slept, and breathed wrestling. Due to work and school my athletic career was put on hold for several years; however, I still worked out regularly. I have recently started boxing as an outlet yet the gym schedule is not always conducive to my work schedule so I have to supplement with a relatively new style gym and work out called, "CrossFit." I have only started using this brand in the last couple weeks. My workouts over the years have been modeled similar to CrossFit with HIIT (high-intensity interval training). I have worked at Planet Fitness in Portland and my last gym was World's which is similar to Gold's but doesn't have the same following. I have chosen Gold's Gym, Planet Fitness, and CrossFit for this Analysis. These are all gyms and house hold names. Gold's has been extremely popular since the 1970's with Arnold Schwarzenegger as its poster boy. Planet Fitness and risen to fame in recent years due to its "Judgement Free Zone" and affordable price tag. Finally, CrossFit is more widely known for women who are extremely muscular and people flipping tires. My initial hypothesis is that Planet Fitness would have the highest popularity with Gold's Gym and CrossFit being fairly far behind. The two graphs below of are the 12 months and 15-year trends, respectively.
My hypothesis was way off. I was surprised to learn that Gold's has not had the market in over ten years! The last date it leads its two competitors was May, 2008. I was also unaware of the popularity of CrossFit until this assignment. I figured I had a bias because I am a user of the product. However, the spikes placement is interesting to me.
As you can see from the fifteen years trend line Planet Fitness has a spike then has some consistent growth. This is due to the fact that those are January memberships from new year resolutions. This is not surprising for the majority of the American public. Gold's Gym has a similar small spike, but from 2012 to 2014 it seems to have actually had negative growth as compared to its new kid competitor Planet Fitness. The popularity has increased back to a normal level of ten year ago.
Crossfit is once again a whole different animal. The Spikes are never in January! They spike in popularity come in March and August. This is due to people's involvement with what is called, "CrossFit Games." This is a National contest sponsored by Rebook since 2007. The open or regional competitions are held in the spring and the national contest later in the summer. You may see them on ESPN2 if you're sitting in a sports bar at 3pm on a Wednesday or flipping through your cable on a Saturday afternoon. They are not in prime-time television slots but are growing in popularity. A couple points of social controversy for the company was in 2016 when it gave its winners' handguns. No one person takes credit for this PR disaster. The second came from 2015 where Rebook banned competitors from wearing Nike apparel and footwear during competition. Nike also parked trucks outside the stadium in protest and was even suited had to change the name of a new shoe lines focused on Crossfit athletes.
In Conclusion, my initially hypothesis was completing wrong. Crossfit is a much more trending service than the dinosaur that is Gold's Gym or the purple play place of Planet Fitness. The exercise has been extremely helpful in the comparison of firm's trends. I have used it in our case two study on Netflix as well.
